Since August 2015, the LSR7 School District has provided students from kindergarten through 12th grade equitable, one-to-one access to devices and future-ready learning resources through the Connect2Learn initiative. Chromebook Care & Troubleshooting Cleaning Damage Working Offline Tips for Keeping Chromebooks Healthy Cleaning Acceptable Cleaning Agents for Chromebooks LSR7 uses only 50% water mixed with 50% Isopropyl (70% solution) alcohol for all electronic devices. This is mixed in a spray bottle and sprayed onto an antistatic cleaning cloth. Then the device is wiped down with the cloth. Cleaning Best Practices Please note that only certain products can be used to clean the Chromebooks and teacher laptops. Minor cleaning and basic dusting: Shut down the Chromebook or laptop Wipe the LCD screen gently with a soft, dry cloth (such as those used to clean eyeglasses) If marks remain after basic cleaning: Dampen the cloth with LCD cleaner. Gently wipe the cloth across the display in one direction, move from the top of the display to the bottom. Be sure the screen is dry before closing the lid or turning it back on Do not use any of the following chemicals or any solutions that contain them: acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride. Never spray anything directly onto device. If you have a different chemical or solution and are not sure whether it is suitable, do not use it. Using any of the chemicals in the previous list may cause permanent damage to the LCD screen. Some commercial window cleaners contain ammonia and are, therefore, unacceptable. Damage What do you do if your Chromebook is damaged? If damage is minor and device still works, continue to use the device. Examples of minor damage might include: A missing key One of the charging ports is broken Camera is blurry Touchpad not working, but you have a mouse Touchscreen not working, but keyboard fine Won’t hold a charge, but works when plugged in Something stuck in headphone jack Cracked hinges or plastic If damage is more serious and renders the device not usable, consider the following options: Share a device with sibling to do schoolwork Use a personal tablet, laptop or desktop to do school work These options are not ideal, but are workable options given the current environment we are in. If neither of these are an option, please turn in a TMT ticket and report the issue. You only need to open a TMT ticket if you do not have another device to use. What to do if Charger is damaged? Verify you have followed all charging tips. Borrow siblings Chromebook charger if that is an option. Do not use other chargers for your Chromebook. Open a TMT ticket if necessary. Working Offline How to Work Offline on Your Chromebook : What you already know: Chromebooks connect to the Internet when you are at school. You can take your Chromebook to any place that has the Internet, connect to their Internet, and use your Chromebook. What can you do if you have limited or no Internet or your Internet goes out? You can work offline, if you have it set up to do so. What does offline” mean? Working on a Google Document you have already opened without the Internet. How can I do this? You must be connected to the Internet to set this up. You can take your Chromebook to any Lee’s Summit school or facility Stand or park outside of the building Logon to your Chromebook Once you are logged on to the Internet, open your Google Drive. ClickGear in top right cornerSelect Settings Select the boxCreate, open and edit your recent Google Docs, and Slides files on this device while offline. ClickDone. Does Schoology or Youtube work offline? No. However, if you go outside of any Lee’s Summit school, you can use the Internet just like if you were in school. To work on a Google Document at home, open the document and then go home to work on it. When you are ready to turn in, you can return to a location with the internet and this document will sync to your Google Drive. Tips for Keeping Chromebooks Healthy Tips to Keep Chromebooks Healthy Charge your device frequently by plugging charger directly into wall outlet and not a powerstrip. Do not let battery drain below 20% charge. Some of these devices seem to struggle to charge again if totally drained, so keeping a charge on the device will keep it from needing repairs. Check out this document for detailed charging instructions. Keep food and drinks away from device. If you have a drink nearby be sure it has a lid. Designate a safe place to store and charge device when not in use. Do not leave on the floor, couch, etc… where another family member might sit or step on it. Do not let other family members use device for non-school related work or activities. Take good care of your charger too! Do not leave it plugged in where someone can trip and bend connections. Take care when plugging and unplugging from Chromebook.
